Alex Maxwell
Alex holds an MA in Human Geography and an MSc in Africa and International Development from the University of Edinburgh. His PhD study at the University of Glasgow on post-conflict reintegration in Northern Uganda, is a result of a sustained interest in understanding non-state armed groups (NSAG’s) in fragile states, and ties in his extended interest in understanding longer-term solutions to addressing the needs of war-affected communities after conflict, in particular, the more invisible factors that influence behaviours, such as narratives which inform how actors understand and act out concepts such as justice and peace. General interest in understanding: gendered insecurities; intersectional, youth-led and adaptive community driven models for sustainable peace, and the role of social enterprise in development. Methodologically, Alex is interested in approaches which better understand local ways of knowing, from life histories, to creative participatory and decolonial methods. Alex has over ten years of experience in research, project management and communication which have informed policy in varying contexts from multilateral organisations (UNODC/UNIDO), to the Scottish Government and international NGOs (PATRIR/Resolution Possible).
